Electrical engineers are changing the world. You can witness our impact everywhere, from enormous electrical power grids that span continents to nanomachines embedded in living cells. The information and technology revolution has been built - in large part - on the advances of our field. Electrical engineering stands at a time of extraordinary opportunity, as we rise to meet the changing information, communication, transportation, energy, medical, and environmental needs of society.
The UW Department of Electrical Engineering is a leader in this challenging environment. Over the last decade, the Pacific Northwest has developed a strong, vital technology industry, and our region's technological strength and increasing international prominence has presented us with unmatched opportunities for research, education, and service.
We've grown into the largest department in the UW College of Engineering, and we're still growing, adding more faculty and branching into new projects and research areas. Our department maintains close affiliations and several joint-research projects with a broad range of other schools at the UW, including Computer Science and Engineering, Bioengineering, and the UW Medical School.
Building on our department's existing strengths and the strengths of the College of Engineering, the University of Washington, and our region's technology industry, we will continue to be an international leader in Electrical Engineering.
