About UW EE
Welcome to the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington. Here at UW EE, we strive for excellence in education through cutting edge research. By closely integrating the requisites of EE with emerging interdisciplinary areas, we provide a stellar program that fully prepares students to enter the workforce and address today’s most pressing issues. Our academic program offers the full range of degree options including a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science (both day-time and evening degree program options), PhD degrees as well as various certificate programs. We currently have 470 majors in the Undergraduate Program, 260 in the Graduate Program, and 100 in the Professional Masters Program.
The research conducted at UW EE is nothing short of world class, as we are engaged in today’s most relevant topics. Given the diversity and interdisciplinary expertise amongst our faculty and students, the department pursues a wide variety of research topics in areas such as: Advanced Energy Technologies, Speech-Based and Haptic Human-Computer Interfaces, Distributed and 'Smart' Sensor Design, Streaming and Broadcast Multimedia, Electromagnetics and Remote Sensing, Systems-on-a-chip Design and Testing, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Signal Processing and Compression, Mechatronics and Genome Automation, Advanced Wireless Networks and Communications, Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS), Nanotechnology. Externally funded research has grown from $5.0 million during the 1998-1999 fiscal year to a high of $22.6 million in fiscal year 2001-2002. Over the last four fiscal years, external funding has averaged $15 million per annum.
UW EE has an excellent group of faculty, and they are well renowned for their significant contributions within the field.
