Admission to the Graduate Program in EE (U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents)
Application Deadline
The deadline for admission for U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents of the U.S. is January 1. We will not be able to consider applications submitted after the deadline. Applicants are responsible for tracking their electronic application to make sure that all items are submitted by the deadline. The University does not notify applicants of missing materials.
Applicants will submit an electronic on-line application. The application process allows applicants to submit all materials except the GRE Score via the web application. Instructions for submitting applications materials can be found on the web application. It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit materials to the correct addresses and according to the instructions.
These items will be submitted via the on-line electronic application process.
- Electronic Application IMPORTANT: Permanent residents, green card holders, and domestic students with degrees from schools outside the U.S. must also print out the completed electronic application and send a signed copy to: University of Washington, Office of Graduate Admissions, Room #301 Loew Hall, Campus Box 352191, Seattle WA USA 98195-2191. Domestic students with degrees from the U.S. need not send a hard copy.

- Letters of recommendation (3 letters required) Applicants will be asked to provide the current email address of all recommenders who will then be automatically notified via email to provide on-line the letter. As a part of the letter of recommendation process, recommenders will also be asked to rate the applicant in such areas as creativity, independent thinking, ability to work as a team, and verbal and written proficiency.
- Statement of purpose stating academic and professional goals, 1 page in length
- Personal statement (optional) stating any personal obstacles or special circumstances, 1 page in length
- Transcripts Undergraduate and graduate only. Upload to electronic application (obtain a PDF file of the transcript from the university, or scan the transcript and then submit it) IMPORTANT: Permanent residents, green card holders, and domestic students with degrees from schools outside the U.S. must also send an official transcript to: University of Washington, Office of Graduate Admissions, Room #301 Loew Hall, Campus Box 352191, Seattle WA USA 98195-2191. Domestic students with degrees from the U.S. need not send official transcripts at the time of application.
GRE scores will not be submitted via the on-line application process. To allow sufficient time for the reporting of the scores, applicants should take the exam no later than October. Applicants should request ETS to submit scores to the University of Washington Institution Code 4854. For details on the recommended passing scores, return to Criteria For Admission.
