Information Specific to
Students With Disabilities
Disability Student Services Office (DSS): call (206) 543-8924

In addition to providing
many other services for disabled students, DSS also serves as a
resource and consultant to instructors/TAs and staff on matters
pertaining to working with students with disabilities. DSS also
offers services such as providing note-takers and sign language
interpreters and relocating classes to barrier-free rooms when
necessary.

This free
transportation service is available to faculty, staff, and students who
are permanently or temporarily disabled with mobility limitations. The
shuttle operates between UW facilities on campus and in the University
District. Operating times are 7:45 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. Monday through
Friday. When classes are in session, one van is available from 3:45 p.m.
to 7:25 p.m. Monday through Friday. Service is available on a
first-call, first-served basis. Reservations are taken until 4:00 p.m.
UW Cares Escort Service: call (206) 685-WALK

This is a free night escort
service for the campus community. The program generally operates from dusk
(5:30 p.m. in fall and winter quarters, 8:30 p.m. in spring quarter) until
12:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. It serves most of the campus area
including the residence halls, the fraternities and sororities, and the
main commuter (E1 or Montlake) parking lot. A team of two volunteer
student escorts will be dispatched from the HUB to walk with you to these
destinations or to a
Night Ride stop. If you are in the South Campus, escorts will meet you
at the T-Wing or Hitchcock overpass. Escorts are readily identifiable,
wearing bright red jackets with "UWCARES" on the back and displaying photo
identification badges.
