Student Privacy TAs are reminded that the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 requires that the University treat student records in a confidential manner. Please do not leave any current student work (graded or ungraded) lying around in offices or hallways for open access. That is in complete opposition to the university's privacy policy (WAC 478-140). If you plan on distributing grades, papers and exams through departmental mailboxes or hallways you have to ask permissions from the students. Ideally, make plans to return homework/reports/exams either in labs/quiz sections, lecture sections, or during your office hours. At all other times, keep all students work in your desk drawer (or file cabinets in the TA office).
