Transfer and Concurrent Degree Instructions

Graduate students who are pursuing a degree in another University of Washington department and wish to either a) obtain a concurrent Electrical Engineering degree or b) transfer into the Electrical Engineering Department should follow the instructions listed below.

NOTE: For either option, it is required that the applicant submit a letter from an EE faculty member who is willing to serve as an advisor.

Concurrent Degree in Electrical Engineering

Submit to the EE Department:
  1. A copy of your original admission file (Graduate School application, transcripts, test scores). See the Advising Office in your current department and ask them to forward this to the EE Advising Office, Box 352500
  2. A copy of your University of Washington transcript
  3. Statement of purpose - a one-page summary of your background and the reason for requesting a concurrent degree in Electrical Engineering.
  4. If applying for a Master's in EE, submit a Program of Study form.
  5. A list of courses you will apply towards your degree in the other department. Include a statement from your home department advisor verifying that these courses are or will be used solely for your that department's degree.
  6. A letter from an advisor in Electrical Engineering who is willing to serve as your advisor in electrical engineering
  7. The Informal Concurrent Program Application form signed by your home department.
  8. Application materials should be submitted 4-6 weeks before the quarter for which the student is applying.

Transfer to Electrical Engineering

Submit to the EE Department:
  1. Application materials should be submitted 4-6 weeks before the quarter for which the student is applying.
  2. A copy of your original admission file (Graduate School application, transcripts, test scores, letters of recommendation, resume, etc). See the Advising Office in your current department and ask them to forward this to the EE Advising Office, Box 352500.
  3. Statement of purpose - a one-page summary of your background and the reason for transferring to Electrical Engineering.
  4. A copy of your University of Washington transcript.
  5. A letter from an advisor in the Electrical Engineering who is willing to supervise your program.
  6. The transfer petition form (available in the Graduate School or department advising offices) signed by your home department.
