Opportunities in Power Systems: Optimization, Power Electronics and Understanding Customers

Baosen Zhang

Abstract

The power system is undergoing a tremendous transformation, driven by the advance of new types of resources and society’s desire of cleaner energy portfolios. In particular, new resources such as rooftop solar, electrical vehicles and demand response are appearing at the edge of the electrical grid. In this talk, I will show how we can control, optimize, and model these new devices. I will also present how technology is enabling individual customers to influence the system in unprecedented ways, and the new opportunities and challenges this provides.
