Personal Summary

My research and teaching are an important part of my life. In fact, my faculty position at the University of Washington, in addition to providing great job satisfaction, also attempts to consume all of my available free time. Unfortunately, it simply would not be prudent to allow it to do so, and to build adequate sand against the UWEE tide, I occupy my free time with several activities that are mildly unrelated to engineering.

In addition to maintaining my household, described by some keen observers as a zoo, I indulge in a variety of hobbies including gardening, photography, writing , sewing, painting, and crocheting. Use of my hands and right brain (perhaps even my heart) in my hobbies is a welcome complement to that which keeps me busy during the workday.

My most important priority in life is my spirtitual relationship with God and relationships with close friends and family. Despite being an introvert, I enjoy most caring for and nurturing growth in those people close to me. It is one of my strengths and also one of my weaknesses to love people for who they are.
