COMBINATION OF SURFACE PLASMON RESONANCE WITH OTHER SENSING TECHNIQUES

Multiple independent measurements often reveal more about an analyte than does one measurement of any given technique. We aim to exploit this principle to improve the quality of surface plasmon resonance sensing data. For instance, surface plasmon resonance may be combined with electrochemical measurements. The gold sensing surface simultaneously serves as an SPR sensor and as an electrochemical electrode. Below is a diagram of the fiber optic SPR electrode.

The waveforms on the left show anodic stripping voltammetry demonstrating detection of lead and copper ions using the combination of SPR and electrochemistry.
