September 10, 2015

Professor Eve Riskin, who was the fourth woman hired by UW EE, is featured in a new video about closing the gender gap in engineering. Together with colleague Joyce Yen, Riskin created the Leadership Excellence for Academic Diversity (LEAD) workshops, which provide information to leaders in academia about how to recruit more women.

The video also features UW EE Professor Emerita Irene Peden, the first woman hired by the UW College of Engineering in 1962. While at UW, Dr. Peden served as Associate Dean in the COE and Associate Chair of UW EE. Today, UW leads the nation in women engineering faculty with 22% women faculty. The national average is 14.5%.
