On December 4, The University of Washington (UW) launched a new institute aimed at accelerating nanoscale research. The Institute for Nano-Engineered Systems (NanoEs) will pursue impactful advancements in a variety of disciplines — including energy, materials science, computation and medicine. The institute is housed in a new, multimillion-dollar facility on the UW’s Seattle campus. UW Professor of Electrical Engineering and Bioengineering and Director of NanoEs Karl Böhringer describes how the institute will thrive in UW’s collaborative and innovative ecosystem.
“NanoES will build on these strengths, bringing together people, tools and opportunities to develop nanoscale devices and systems,” Böhringer said.
UW Electrical Engineering Professor Eric Klavins recently moved a portion of his synthetic biology research team to the new building.
“We are extremely excited about the interdisciplinary and collaborative potential of the new space,” Klavins said.
