Vibration-Driven Parallel Droplet Microfluidics

Bohringer_vibration-driven-parallel-droplet-microfluidicsVibrating anisotropic micro-structured surfaces can propel liquid droplets along paths that may be straight, curved or circular, horizontal, sloping or even upside down. This unique property allows us to build a microfluidic platform from a single material with no internal moving parts. A standard smartphone will be sufficient to power and control the droplets, forming the basis for novel portable diagnostic devices.
