Self-cleaning Surfaces Based on Asymmetric Micro-Texture

Anisotropic ratchet conveyors (ARCs) propel liquid droplets across a micro-textured surface. The energy for droplet motion comes from vibration; the ARC converts this oscillation into controlled, directed droplet motion. We use this phenomenon to create, for example, transparent, optically flat coatings for self-cleaning solar panels.
