BS-MS Combined Degree

Our combined Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering/Master of Science in Electrical Engineering offers early admission into our daytime graduate program, with increased efficiency, security, continuity, and prestige for admitted students. The combined BS-MS degree program offers acceptance for highly qualified undergraduates who have just completed their Junior year, and are interested in pursuing a research based MS degree which requires a thesis or research project.  Only students from the following institutions may be nominated for this program:

North America

  • University of Washington-Seattle

Asia

  • Fudan University
  • National Chiao Tung University
  • National Taiwan University
  • Shanghai Jiao Tong University

July 15, 2017 Nomination Deadline for acceptance into autumn quarter 2017 cohort

The BS-MS selection process is different than our standard graduate admission pathway, and the nomination process involves four steps:

  1. Submitting a Nomination
    • As a first step, students must solicit two faculty nominations from either the EE faculty of their home institution or from the EE faculty of the University of Washington.
    • Students are responsible for creating and submitting their nomination packet, requirements listed below.
    • Faculty nominations should be submitted separately from student nomination packets to ensure confidentiality.
  2. Acceptance of Your Nomination
    • Students will be notified via email if their nomination is accepted or not.
    • Acceptance of your nomination will still require an official application to the program.
    • Students whose nominations are not accepted for the combined BS-MS program are still welcome to apply to our daytime program through our regular application process.
  3. Application to the MSEE program
    • If accepted, students will be directed to complete an official application for admission through the Graduate School of the University of Washington.
    • Students who have been accepted into the combined BS-MS degree program are in effect pre-approved for acceptance into the graduate program, provided they meet all continuation requirements.
    • Official notice of admission to program will be sent by the end of March.
  4. Admission to the MSEE program
    • Students are expected to start their graduate studies in the following autumn quarter, after completion of their bachelor's degree.

Below you'll find application information and degree requirements to help you get started.
