Electrical Engineering recognizes invaluable members of department

The Department of Electrical Engineering recently honored staff, faculty and students whose outstanding contributions helped strengthen the success of the department.

Associate Professor Matt Reynolds receives the Outstanding Faculty Award for 2018.

The Outstanding Faculty Award was presented to Matt Reynolds for his devoted commitment to students and the department. Reynolds, associate chair for research and entrepreneurship, was chosen for his creative approaches to teaching and commitment to student success. One of his nominators said his passion for science and engineering is an inspiration to his students.

The Outstanding Staff Award was presented to Stephanie Brown, who consistently exceeds expectations. Brown, the electrical engineering events coordinator, was chosen to receive this award because her colleagues said her work is exceptional and she handles each day with finesse and a kind demeanor.

The Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award was given to two undergraduate students, Tin-Tin Patana-Anake and Megan Swanson. Both show an exemplary commitment to the department in service activities. Patana-Anake has been recognized for his initiative and independence and Swanson for her academic excellence and leadership in various organizations.

Filipp Demeschonok receives the Outstanding Professional Student Award for 2018.

The Outstanding Professional Student Award was presented to Filipp Demeschonok. He was nominated because of his commendable commitment to his career and education. His robust intellectual curiosity and warm personality have made him an excellent part of the electrical engineering team.

The Yang Research Award for Outstanding Doctoral Student was given to Rahil Jain. His work has been well-received by the research community and, according to his nominator, he is already of special interest to leaders in the tech industry and a very successful entrepreneurial students.

The Vikram Jandhyala and Suja Vaidyanathan Endowed Innovation Award in Electrical Engineering was presented to two students. Max Pfeiffer received the Undergraduate Award. He is being honored for his dedication to academics and extracurricular activities and his impressive ability to overcome challenges in order to reach his goals. The Graduate Award went to Sep Makhsous. While working on his graduate degrees in electrical engineering, Makhsous completed his MBA and created DietSkan, a handheld nutritional intake device which has earned him the invitation to be on SharkTank.

The Chair’s Award was presented to Pam Eisenheim. Eisenheim has worn many hats in the department, including her current role as external outreach manager. With more than 30 years of dedicated partnership and leadership, Eisenheim’s colleagues agree that she has made a lasting impact in the department.
