Nam Song

Master’s student Nam Song has been selected to receive a fellowship from the Hydro Research Foundation (HRF). The Research Awards Program is an annual award given to the nation’s most outstanding students researching hydropower technology. Through this award, Song will have his research funded through HRF and have the opportunity to complete an internship with an industry partner.
“The fellowship is important to me as it gives me an opportunity to work on my main interests in the integration of renewable generation with the pre-existing utilities infrastructure,” Song said. “I get to see [hydropower] from a purely academic perspective and from the development of practical tools that different PUDs can utilize in the field.”
Throughout his education, Song has embodied a passion for renewable energy inside and outside the classroom. “Prior to my MSEE studies here at UW, I majored in engineering science (specializing in energy systems engineering) at the University of Toronto and undertook a 12-month long internship at Hydro One working in the Protection, Controls, and Metering Engineering department.”
Once Song graduates in 2018, he plans to turn his sights toward the consulting side of the renewable energy industry. By earning the HRF fellowship, Song has distinguished himself as one of the most qualified candidates for that exact occupation.
