Energy Efficient Modulated Backscatter Communication

Reynolds-backscatterWe have developed several new approaches to modulated backscatter communication, including the first demonstration of quadrature amplitude modulated (QAM) backscatter at 96 megabits as well as the first demonstration of “Bluetooth Backscatter” devices that are compatible with absolutely unmodified Bluetooth devices. No hardware, firmware or software modifications are needed to receive these signals, yet their energy per bit is over 100X lower than conventional Bluetooth devices.
